About Biliang Hu

I received my bachelor degree in biological sciences from USTC in China, working with Dr. Wentao Liu in Prof. Yongguang Yang Lab on IL15 intervention in T1D. Then, my PHD training in Prof. Pin Wang Lab was focused on engineering lentivector to deliver cancer vaccines. I successfully developed a DCs-targeted IDLV for efficiently presenting model Ag OVA, melanoma Ag hgp100 and HIV Ag gag. I also developed a lentivector based multi-Ag melanoma vaccine to significantly suppress tumor progression. During a short term postdoc training in Prof. Pin Wang Lab, I designed an antibody conjugated IFN for modulating tumor immune microenvironment, which effectively inhibited tumor growth in combination with depletion of CD4 T cells.

After completing the research at USC, I was very lucky to have an interview with Prof. Carl June for further postdoc training in Jun. 2014. During this exciting meeting, I proposed genetic production of IFN in CART cells for modulating tumor immune microenvironment, and Prof. Carl June suggested IL18. The study of human IL18-CART was completed in Jul. 2016. It had been a very special and inspirational experience that we are the first to establish human IL18-CART system and redefine a very interesting costimulatory role of human IL18 in vitro and in vivo. Unfortunately, the publication process is long and 'complicated'. So we decided to share our exciting discovery through cold harbor spring laboratory preprint server bioRxiv.
